Neurodiversity - ADHD/ASD/AuDHD Coaching

I provide coaching for individuals who identify as neurodivergent, including those with ADHD, autism spectrum differences, or other forms of neurodiversity. My work is grounded in a relational and pluralistic approach that respects the uniqueness of each person's experience.

Coaching can be beneficial to those who are wired to think outside of the box. There are many benefits to thinking differently but there can also be challenges that can be explored and navigated within a structured coaching conversation.

There are often two interwoven aspects of neurodivergence that we might explore together:

  • The functional aspect: how a differently wired brain can lead to challenges in a world largely designed for more typical ways of thinking and behaving.

  • The emotional impact: the experience of being different can sometimes bring feelings of guilt, shame, or a sense of "not being good enough" or wondering "what's wrong with me".

I don’t follow a formulaic or manualised approach to working with neurodiversity. While a diagnosis can offer useful insight and validation, it doesn’t automatically lead to a clear path or ready-made solution. Instead, I work in a phenomenological and collaborative way, where we can co-create strategies that are tailored to your lived experience and evolving needs.

My coaching supports clients to:

  • Build emotional resilience by exploring your response to stress and pressure, and discovering healthier ways to manage them

  • Improve communication and relationships through more satisfying and constructive interactions at home, at work, and socially

  • Develop self-awareness and confidence by engaging in reflective practices that help clarify values, uncover patterns, and support better choices

  • Identify strategies for organisation, motivation and productivity in a way that works with your individual style rather than against it

Sessions offer a grounded and non-judgmental space to make sense of your inner world, cultivate self-compassion, and take practical steps towards a life that feels more manageable, authentic, and fulfilling.

Whether you’re newly diagnosed or have been navigating life as a neurodivergent person for many years, specialist coaching can offer meaningful support and space for growth, healing, and self-discovery.

If any of this resonates please get in touch.

Government Funding via Access to Work

If you are employed, a business director, or self-employed in the UK, you may be eligible to get this coaching fully funded through the government’s Access to Work scheme.
This is a Department for Work and Pensions DWP grant designed to cover practical workplace support.  It does not affect your personal benefits and it never has to be paid back.
  • My Fees: £155 per hour for approved Access to Work allocations.
  • How We Work: Sessions are conducted either online or face to face in my Exeter consulting room.
  • Our Focus: We work directly on the functional and structural aspects of neurodivergence in the workplace focusing on executive function, communication systems, and managing stress and sensory processing to prevent burnout and managing assocated emotional fallout.

Navigating the DWP Backlog

The Access to Work scheme currently faces a significant backlog, and it can take several months for an assessor to look at your application. When you apply, or when your assessor finally contacts you, it is vital to be very clear about why you need specialist support so they can approve funding with an appropriate practitioner for you.
If they try to steer you toward a generic, low-cost coach, you have the right to request a preferred supplier. You can use this exact wording to justify your application:
"I need specialist strategy coaching to help me manage the day-to-day impact of my ADHD/ASD/AUDHD at work, particularly with focus, organisation, and preventing burnout. I would like to work with my preferred specialist, Amanda Williamson at Relational Best. She is a senior accredited practitioner with 15 years of deep clinical experience, she understands how neurodiversity affects both my workload and my emotional well-being. A standard, non-clinical coach does not have the level of training needed to support me safely in a demanding workplace.
If you have already been awarded an allocation or want to list me as your preferred supplier, please get in touch to check my availability - amanda@relationalbest.co.uk
